Another Sky wins at the 15th Independent Music Awards

Back in August, Valentina Blú and I entered the Independent Music Awards with our latest release "Another Sky". Out of the pool of genres for which bands can submit their material in, our song was successfully nominated in the World Beat category, with the award ceremony taking place on November 12, 2016.

This year's event was held at the David Rubenstein Atrium of the Lincoln Center in New York, which comprised a day long program of talks, live music, and nominations. I must say that the live music was one of my favorite parts of the evening, showcasing beautiful performances by Jonah Smith, The Alternate Routes, Seth Glier, Sofia Rei, and The Le Boeuf Brothers.

The winners were presented in 'blocks' of similar categories throughout the day, and finally, the time came for the winners of our block to be announced. Since I consider the 'World Beat' genre to be so broad and ambiguous, and given the musical variety of the rest of the nominees in our bracket, my expectations weren't very high, but I could still feel the anxiety and excitement of maybe, just maybe, being picked for the number one spot...

...and so it happened! Another Sky by Valentina Blú was declared the winner of the 15th Independent Music Awards in the World Beat - Song category. I am incredibly grateful for the appreciation and recognition that this song, this labor of love, has acquired; and this certificate only means more fuel to keep on working and thriving as an artist.
